GPB Radio Dedicates An Evening of Programming To The Musical Legacy Of John Coltrane

On Friday, September 19, GPB Radio celebrates the 82nd birthday of the late tenor saxophone legend John Coltrane with an evening of special programming. Coltrane, born September 23, 1926, was an artist who was considered to be one of the most important and controversial figures in jazz. At 9 PM, GPB Radio will feature a special entitled, “The Making of A Love Supreme,” hosted by Mos Def. This program will be followed by The Jazz Spot with Masani at 10 PM and the 7th Annual Tribute To Trane, two full hours of musing, memories and music in honor of John Coltrane.

GPB is proud of its increased commitment to regionally-produced jazz radio programming. GPB Radio features Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland Fridays at 8 PM, The Jazz Spot with Masani Fridays 9 to Midnight, Don Kennedy’s Big Band Jump Sundays at 6 PM, and a new program, Ab’s Place, overnights Saturdays and Sundays midnight until 6 AM.
